Human Resources Coordinator
Job Description
The City of Gardena is seeking a Human Resources Coordinator to support its central HR functions onsite in Gardena, California. Working under general supervision, the role performs para-professional technical and clerical duties, prepares personnel documents, and serves as a liaison between the department and the central HR Office. Salary range: USD 62,100 - 79,272 per year.
Responsibilities
- Ensures timely and accurate submission of personnel documents to the Human Resources Office
- Completes personnel transactions and personal data forms following established formats and procedures
- Interprets and responds to routine inquiries regarding Personnel Rules and Regulations, MOUs, and department employee handbooks
- Assists employees by providing forms related to personnel transactions
- Prepares and submits personnel requisitions, employee relations and disciplinary materials, performance management documentation, and workers' compensation paperwork
- Tracks department leaves, part-time work hours, and salary increases
- Coordinates and maintains program information for Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol programs
- Assists with employment related background checks
- Conducts new hire orientations and administers recruitment processes, including preparing exam plans, scheduling interviews, and drug and alcohol employment verifications
- Assists in providing employees with leave documentation and notices
- Maintains records of leaves and timely notifies the Human Resources Office of potential leaves
- May assist in preparing specialized reports and schedules required by the Human Resources Officer, including Personnel Action Forms (PAFs) and salary-related budget documents
- Files and maintains a variety of personnel records and reports related to personnel transactions
- Prepares memos and letters for internal and external correspondence and performs other related duties as required
- May be required to work outside standard hours to meet deadlines
Organizational Responsibilities
This position reports to the designated manager or department head and is responsible for confidential and non-confidential personnel transactions.
While general administrative supervision for this position is provided by the department, the incumbent will routinely seek technical advice and guidance from the City’s Human Resources Office.
