Job Description
Commerce People is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to oversee HR and payroll across multiple US and Canadian entities from our Las Vegas office. This onsite role in Las Vegas, NV 89103 offers a competitive salary of $60,000 - $65,000 per year, plus a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, flexible spending accounts, an employee assistance program, and paid time off. As a multi-jurisdictional HR partner, you will align HR processes across diverse industries while ensuring compliance and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HR contact for a portfolio of independent entities across varied industries and locations.
- Investigate and resolve complex employee relations matters across different cultures and organizational structures.
- Standardize and execute end-to-end onboarding and offboarding to support a diverse workforce.
- Process and manage accurate payroll for US employees across multiple states and Canadian employees across several provinces.
- Monitor US tax requirements (FICA, FUTA, SUTA, local taxes) and Canadian statutory deductions (CPP, EI, provincial payroll taxes).
- Oversee benefits programs including health, retirement, and ancillary offerings tailored to different business units and legal regions.
- Ensure compliance with US federal and state laws (FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEOC) and Canadian federal and provincial employment standards.
- Review, update, and harmonize employee handbooks, contracts, and workplace policies for each portfolio company.
- Monitor health and safety matters, including US workers’ compensation claims and Canadian WSIB or WorkSafeBC programs.
Requirements
- 4 to 6 years of progressive HR experience, preferably within a PEO, shared services model, or a multi-entity corporation.
- Hands-on payroll experience in both the US and Canada using modern platforms such as Paychex and Payworks.
- Strong understanding of the differences between US employment-at-will and Canadian common law or provincial notice requirements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field; HR certification (SHRM-CP or equivalent) preferred.
- Analytical mindset with strong communication and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to adapt quickly to different company environments, industries, and management styles.
- Proven discretion and ability to handle confidential information for both employees and the organization.
