Job Description

This onsite Human Resources Generalist role in Baton Rouge supports Cajun Industries' Houston operations, overseeing onboarding, intern program coordination, and employee development. You will serve as the local HR contact for Houston and collaborate with Baton Rouge HR to ensure policy and benefits alignment across locations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the end-to-end onboarding for new hires, including online steps, completion of new-hire paperwork, and required employment documentation.
  • Assist with the offer letter process for Houston-area professional hires.
  • Arrange office access, IT setup, workspace needs, and other pre-start readiness items.
  • Deliver new-hire orientation, facility tours, and introductions to key team members.
  • Coordinate required training for new employees, such as Cajun Qualified Driver Training, site-specific training, cultural training, and other onboarding prerequisites.
  • Support the Accelerated Onboarding for Managers program when applicable.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers and Baton Rouge HR to provide a consistent, organized onboarding experience.
  • Provide support to Talent Acquisition for professional hiring efforts as needed.
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing Cajun’s Intern Program for the Houston office.
  • Assist with intern onboarding, programming, events, communications, and the overall intern experience.
  • Support development programs, including the Mentoring Program and Cajun YP Program.
  • Assist with the ongoing development, coordination, and delivery of the Career Growth Focus professional training.
  • Help coordinate training sessions, employee development events, and related communications.
  • Partner with Houston leadership and Baton Rouge HR to identify opportunities to improve engagement, development, and retention.
  • Serve as a Houston-based point of contact for general HR policy questions, including attendance, PTO, workplace expectations, and related topics.
  • Provide initial intake and triage of employee concerns, questions, and complaints.
  • Determine which matters can be handled locally and which should be escalated to Baton Rouge HR.
  • Document and track employee complaints or concerns, escalating to Baton Rouge HR or management as appropriate by issue type.
  • Assist supervisors with disciplinary documentation and act as a witness during employee meetings when needed.
  • Collaborate with Baton Rouge HR to address employee relations matters consistently and professionally per policy.
  • Conduct exit interviews, analyze results, and recommend improvements for ongoing processes.
  • Act as a Houston-based contact for benefits questions and help employees locate the appropriate Baton Rouge HR resources.
  • Provide basic benefits and enrollment support, with emphasis during annual open enrollment.
  • Help triage benefit-related questions and escalate complex issues to Baton Rouge HR or Benefits as needed.
  • Relay important HR and benefits information to Houston staff.
  • Reinforce deadlines and required actions for benefits, onboarding, training, and HR initiatives.
  • Assist Baton Rouge HR with employment law compliance activities, including posters, I-9/E-Verify support, audit prep, and related documentation.
  • Support adherence to company policies, procedures, and employment requirements.
  • Maintain accurate HR records, documentation, and tracking logs as needed.
  • Support local HR administrative tasks and special projects as assigned.
  • Act as a liaison between Houston management and the Baton Rouge HR team on complex HR, compliance, employee relations, and benefits matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in HR generalist, HR coordinator, onboarding, employee relations, training, or related roles.
  • Working knowledge of HR policies, employment practices, and basic employment law compliance.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.
  • Strong communication, organization, follow-up, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with employees, managers, and Baton Rouge HR team members.
  • Comfort with providing frontline HR support while recognizing when escalation is necessary.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HR systems preferred.
