Job Description

The HRIS Specialist role at Boston Public Schools supports employees by handling Tier 2 HRIS inquiries in PeopleSoft and related processes, prioritizing accurate documentation and strong customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Process requests for salary lane changes, step increases, career awards, terminations, and time accrual reconciliations within PeopleSoft's Employee Information Services.
  • Evaluate and enter requests for internal and external service step adjustments.
  • Handle tuition reimbursement requests in a timely manner.
  • Support position management adjustments as needed.
  • Update Benefits Service Dates, BPS history, and seniority records.
  • Modify employee class information when required.
  • Deliver customer satisfaction by resolving inquiries promptly; route high priority requests to the supervisor as necessary.
  • Inform callers about HR policies and procedures with supervisor assistance when appropriate.
  • Research questions or concerns, escalate to appropriate personnel, and promote ongoing use of online HR services.
  • With supervisory approval, create instructional materials such as FAQs and knowledge content; collaborate with the DoIT/OiiT team to update the Hub Help Center, citywide kiosks, and training content.
  • Fulfill requests for personnel file copies.
  • Assist with requests for files needed for compliance audits.
  • Support special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain current knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and seminars.
  • Keep files, records, and logs up to date as required.
  • Perform additional related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time clerical or administrative work with substantial customer service and/or computer experience in an office setting.
  • Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures for evaluation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite for creating and editing documents.
  • Working knowledge of City of Boston HR policies, practices, and procedures preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and process a high volume of work in a timely manner.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to prepare reports and correspondence as required.
  • City of Boston Residency is required.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States; eligibility to work by the first day of employment.

Job Summary
