Job Description

Based in Anchorage, Alaska, Alaska Mill and Feed seeks a capable Human Resources Manager to shape and drive HR programs across recruiting, employee relations, payroll support, leave administration, and regulatory compliance. This onsite role partners with leadership to align people operations with business goals, supporting a hands-on team in a dynamic regional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the HR team to design and implement programs and services.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employees and address concerns, complaints, and questions as needed.
  • Partner with leadership to assess staffing needs and develop recruitment strategies.
  • Manage recruiting tasks and oversee onboarding of new hires.
  • Conduct interviews and train management on interviewing techniques, selection processes, and hiring requirements.
  • Monitor employment law, recruiting trends, local labor market conditions, and compensation competitiveness within Alaska and nearby regions.
  • Process new hires, onboarding, terminations, job changes, benefits enrollment, and unemployment claims.
  • Assist with payroll processing, timekeeping, and HRIS functions.
  • Collaborate with management to address performance concerns, coaching opportunities, and workforce development needs.
  • Navigate leaves of absence and accommodations including FMLA, state-specific leave, and ADA considerations.
  • Support policy development initiatives and implementations.
  • Assist with incident reporting, workers’ compensation claims, return-to-work evaluations, and safety-related activities.
  • Track certifications, licenses, and training records.
  • Plan and support local events such as barbecues, retreats, and holiday parties.
  • Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement; demonstrate ownership and professionalism in issue resolution.
  • Foster positive working relationships and clear communication across staff; maintain reliable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration with an HR specialty preferred, or a related field.
  • Three to five years of experience in a dedicated human resources role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; intermediate or advanced Excel skills.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, analytical, investigative, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to excellence, high internal and external customer service standards.
  • Dependable, self-managed with good judgment and a desire for professional growth.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, including multi-day trips.
  • Physical ability to climb stairs and lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Reliable personal vehicle, valid driver license, and safe driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Alaska labor markets, employment trends, and workforce challenges.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification.

Schedule

Full-time, on-site role averaging 45+ hours per week. Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in business administration, HR specialty preferred.

Experience

Three years of experience in a human resources capacity, with five years preferred.
