Job Description

The Human Resources Manager role at Sperry & Rice, LLC provides leadership for all HR functions at the company’s manufacturing facility in Killbuck, OH. This onsite position focuses on compliance, employee relations, recruiting, payroll support, training development, and safety reporting to help maintain an effective and productive workplace.

Role Overview

Responsible for overseeing HR operations at the manufacturing facility, ensuring adherence to company policies and applicable labor laws. The position supports day-to-day people operations including recruitment, training, employee relations, benefits administration, and payroll processing, along with required safety and regulatory reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a point of contact for employee concerns and support conflict resolution
  • Conduct investigations and recommend solutions for workplace issues
  • Provide counseling and support progressive discipline documentation when needed
  • Promote a positive work culture through employee engagement
  • Explain regulations, policies, and procedures to employees as required
  • Develop and initiate trainings for leadership to improve interactions with employees
  • Lead recruiting efforts, including posting roles, contacting applicants, and screening candidates
  • Interview internal and external candidates for upper-level positions within the facility
  • Coordinate recruiting and retention strategies
  • Review compensation data to assess market competitiveness
  • Support onboarding for new hires
  • Manage relationships with temporary employment agencies for production staffing needs
  • Maintain employee files in compliance and ensure data is properly kept in Paychex
  • Review and maintain company Handbooks
  • Partner with managers and employees to administer company policies and practices
  • Complete required OSHA logs and reports, manage COBRA requirements with employees and the insurance provider, and ensure required EEO reporting is completed
  • Process hourly payroll weekly and salary payroll biweekly using Paychex
  • Manually enter job transfer details and payroll changes as needed
  • Collect time adjustment forms to support payroll processing
  • Track absenteeism, vacation time, leave of absence, and other related time records by employee
  • Monitor new employee probationary periods

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study or relevant experience
  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in HR, Personnel, Payroll, or other employee-related functions
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and improve existing processes
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment helpful
  • Strong attention to detail, with planning and organizational skills
  • Experience with Paychex helpful
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
