Job Description

The Market Talent Partner/Lead Recruiter at Markel Service Inc. is responsible for attracting top insurance professionals across US divisions, serving as a strategic, market-facing talent advisor, partnering with business leaders and HR partners, shaping talent strategies, and leading full-cycle recruitment. Travel up to 30% is expected.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with senior leaders to assess current and future talent needs and design proactive recruiting plans aligned with business priorities.
  • Serve as a market-facing advisor on talent acquisition, offering insights on competitor activity, talent trends, and market dynamics.
  • Develop and sustain external relationships across the E&S market, including industry talent, brokers, underwriters, associations, and other key participants.
  • Create targeted sourcing strategies and pipelines for critical and hard-to-fill roles, with a focus on specialized talent.
  • Provide market intelligence, talent mapping, and recommendations to help hiring leaders make informed decisions.
  • Lead end-to-end recruitment for assigned roles, ensuring a high-quality and efficient process from intake through offer.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners and internal stakeholders to align on hiring priorities, recruiting strategy, and candidate experience.
  • Represent Markel in external market activities through networking, industry events, and relationship-building to strengthen brand awareness and talent access.
  • Track and analyze recruiting activity, pipeline health, and market data to generate insights, measure effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure adherence to applicable legal, regulatory, and company policies related to talent acquisition.
  • Travel up to 30% as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum seven years of experience in talent acquisition, executive search, underwriting, or recruiting, preferably within specialty insurance, E&S, or other niche talent markets.
  • Proven ability to build talent pipelines and engage passive candidates for strategic, specialized, or hard-to-fill roles.
  • Solid understanding of the E&S insurance market, including talent trends, competitor dynamics, and core functional roles.
  • Strong relationship-building, communication, and influencing skills, with credibility with both business leaders and external talent.
  • Experience using applicant tracking systems, sourcing tools, and data to inform recruiting strategies and measure outcomes.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the capacity to manage multiple searches, stakeholders, and priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Professional presence and market credibility to represent Markel effectively externally.
  • Professional training or certification in recruiting, talent acquisition, or human resources is preferred.

Pay Information

The base salary offered will reflect factors such as education, relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other applicable considerations. Title and salary will align with the candidate’s skill set and experience. The national average salary range for the Market Talent Partner/Lead Recruiter, Wholesale & Specialty is $97,520 to $134,090 with a 25 percent incentive.
