Job Description

Located onsite in Plainfield, IN, this HR Generalist role supports daily HR operations across JDH Contracting and Northern Lights Locating. Partnering with the HR Director, you will influence recruiting, onboarding, compliance, HR systems, and employee relations. This position offers the chance to collaborate across two organizations, manage essential HR processes, and contribute to a positive, compliant workplace culture.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with sourcing, screening, and coordinating interviews for open roles across both companies as needed.
  • Manage the full pre-employment workflow including background checks, drug screens, and required physicals.
  • Support onboarding and ensure a positive experience for new hires; coordinate onboarding and orientation processes.
  • Maintain employee data within HR systems, including Paycom, and ensure records are accurate, complete, and compliant.
  • Serve as a first point of contact for employee HR questions and concerns; support investigations and documentation related to employee relations.
  • Advise managers on HR best practices and guidance for employee management; maintain files in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage all I-9 compliance processes, including audits and record management.
  • Support HR compliance related to FMCSA/DOT regulations in coordination with the Safety Director.
  • Oversee the random drug testing program and reporting.
  • Provide backup support for payroll processing for JDH Contracting and Northern Lights.
  • Assist with benefits administration, including health insurance and 401(k) programs, and contribute to HR reporting and analytics as needed.
  • Support HR leadership with initiatives and process improvements; help develop policies, procedures, and programs that enhance employee engagement and organizational effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of HR Generalist experience.
  • Experience in fast paced, operational or field-based environments.
  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance including FMLA and I-9 requirements.
  • Experience with payroll coordination and HRIS systems, with Paycom preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities; capable of prioritizing multiple tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable engaging with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Experience supporting construction, utilities, or field service environments; experience supporting multi-company or multi-entity organizations is a plus.
