Human Resource Generalist
Job Description
The Human Resource Generalist role at Siddons-Martin Emergency Group is a hybrid position based in Houston that supports field operations across South Texas and designated branches in New Mexico and Nevada. You will partner with local leadership to strengthen engagement, improve retention, and help build practical HR programs through regular regional travel.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with local and regional management to align daily HR practices with the organization’s broader operating strategy.
- Serve as an accessible, visible HR resource for field employees by addressing routine inquiries and supporting a communicative work environment.
- Complete end-to-end payroll on an alternating schedule (approximately once per month every other cycle), in partnership with the payroll department, including calculating wages, hours, withholdings, and deductions.
- Collaborate with HR leadership to design, develop, and implement new employee retention, recognition, and growth programs.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, advice, and coaching to field managers on employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management.
- Attend and support employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and workplace investigations to help ensure fair and consistent treatment.
- Assist supervisors with talent management, productivity, and morale challenges within their teams.
- Maintain accurate and confidential personnel files, including documentation related to onboarding, promotions, transfers, and separations.
- Process unemployment claims and help with appeals when needed.
- Keep current on federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and best practices to maintain continuous compliance.
- Review team feedback and department metrics and recommend practical approaches and policies that improve HR services and field efficiency.
- Lead or support special HR initiatives and projects as assigned by leadership.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams including recruiting, benefits, payroll, safety, legal, operations, and accounting to deliver cohesive HR support for the field.
- Travel weekly within the assigned territory, including South Texas, New Mexico, and Nevada, and occasionally to the Houston corporate office for department meetings and planning sessions.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with a proven ability to build trust and interact comfortably with employees at all levels, from field staff through senior management.
- Hands-on payroll processing experience within a modern HRIS/payroll system.
- Demonstrated experience or strong capability coaching managers on employee relations, conflict resolution, and performance management.
- Collaborative and creative mindset with the ability to help build and execute new HR programs and initiatives.
- Sound judgment, effective problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential employee information with professionalism and discretion.
- Strong organization and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
- Computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus modern HRIS platforms.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet weekly travel requirements within the territory.

Education and Experience
- 3 to 5 years of HR experience required
- Prior hands-on payroll processing experience required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field highly preferred
