Human Resources Assistant
Job Description
GTSC is seeking a Human Resources Assistant to support day-to-day HR operations at its Chantilly, Virginia headquarters office.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and operational support to members of the Human Resources department on a daily basis.
- Monitor HR inboxes; respond to routine employee questions or route requests to the appropriate HR team member.
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding, including coordination of required documentation, systems activities, and employee communications.
- Process routine employee transactions and data changes in HR systems, including new hires, terminations, status changes, promotions, and other personnel updates.
- Assist with employment verifications and other routine employee documentation requests.
- Support I-9 verification and E-Verify processing and maintain related records.
- Prepare routine HR correspondence, forms, letters, and employee communications using established templates and guidance.
- Maintain accurate electronic personnel records and file HR documentation in the appropriate systems and repositories.
- Support benefits invoice reconciliation by reviewing employee eligibility and coverage details and helping identify and resolve discrepancies.
- Track completion of required corporate, compliance, and employee training.
- Assist with tracking performance review activities and other recurring HR processes.
- Maintain HR trackers, spreadsheets, reports, calendars, and other tools used to manage departmental activities and deadlines.
- Assist with HR compliance audits, document reviews, and records maintenance under the direction of HR staff.
- Support preparation and distribution of HR announcements, presentations, newsletters, employee resources, and other internal communications.
- Support HR projects by gathering information, organizing materials, tracking action items, scheduling activities, and following up with stakeholders.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee, company, and proprietary information.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Communications, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field (highly preferred).
- 1–2 years of professional experience; prior HR, administrative, communications, internship, or office experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft clear, professional employee communications without error.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and follow-up items.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to learn new systems, processes, and HR concepts quickly.
- Good judgment, including knowing when to escalate questions or issues to another HR team member.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Comfort communicating with employees, managers, vendors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Familiarity with HRIS, ATS, SharePoint, or similar business systems is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a collaborative HR team.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to commute and work in-office daily.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Occasionally required to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand as necessary.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in both in-person and virtual work environments.
- Ability to manage repetitive tasks and maintain focus in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
