Human Resources Coordinator
Job Description
Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is building a mission-driven workplace, and the Human Resources Coordinator plays a central role in making the employee experience work smoothly from first day through offboarding. This full-time, non-exempt individual contributor position is based at Fort Mason in San Francisco with a hybrid schedule (telework plus required onsite days) and occasional visits to park sites. What you’ll do
- Own new hire administrative processes, including completing Personnel Action Notice forms, creating and sending offer or transfer letters, and ensuring accurate system data entry for new hires and transfers.
- Support an enhanced onboarding experience that reinforces Parks Conservancy culture, mission, vision, and values.
- Prepare onboarding and termination packets, process related paperwork, and follow established HR procedures.
- Maintain HRIS and personnel file accuracy, run reports as needed, enter new hire data, and update employee profiles for changes in HRIS and vendor sites.
- Follow up on Personnel Action Notice forms to ensure employment record updates are completed correctly.
- Manage background check compliance, including initiating, monitoring, and following up on screenings, plus driving-record-related checks for employees who require access to company vehicles.
- Handle sensitive and confidential disciplinary or performance-related documents for personnel file maintenance.
- Create and maintain personnel, benefits and health, I-9, and workers’ compensation files in alignment with policy and legal compliance, while ensuring employment records comply with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Manage mail sent to the General Human Resources email box by responding directly or routing inquiries to the appropriate person.
- Ensure labor law posters are current across worksites and maintain an inventory of labor law pamphlets.
- Respond to HR-related inquiries or escalate as needed.
- Support Talent Acquisition Manager efforts when necessary, including job posting, redacting applications, resume review, and coordinating interview scheduling.
- Assist the Benefits and Leaves Manager with benefits communication during Open Enrollment, workers’ compensation and healthcare claim support, Leaves of Absence (LOA) packets, and information requests for annual benefit plan audits.
- Assist the Payroll Manager with annual and quarterly reporting, including Bureau of Labor Statistics and EEO reporting.
- Provide backup support for other HR team members when needed.
- Track online compliance trainings and help support New Hire Orientations and other employee trainings.
- Assist in organizing and hosting HR-sponsored events such as Park Days, All Staff meetings, Benefits Fairs, and Holiday parties.
- Manage employee anniversary and birthday calendars and acknowledgements.
- Help plan and attend job fair events when necessary, representing the Parks Conservancy.
What you bring
- Minimum of two years’ HR experience
- Experience building relationships and/or working in a customer-facing role
- Experience working in an HRIS or other complex database system; ADP is a plus
- Ability to learn new technological systems
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects
- Computer proficiency, including Excel or other spreadsheet applications
- Experience organizing and maintaining records

Work environment and physical requirements
- Primarily sits or stands at a desk 6-8 hours per day, with some walking when visiting employees at park sites
- Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to 30 pounds for event setup and breakdown (for example, Open Enrollment)
- Requires a driver’s license and good driving record
- Ability to travel across the San Francisco Bay Area, including sites such as Alcatraz, Muir Woods, Golden Gate Bridge, Crissy Field, and the Presidio
- DMV check approval and eligibility for Parks Conservancy insurance may allow use of organizational vehicles
- Located at the Parks Conservancy’s headquarters in Fort Mason, San Francisco
Compensation and location
- $33.50/hour (Grade 17). Salary will not be negotiated to ensure equity across candidates.
- Full-time; candidates must already be based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Requires at least 2 days per week onsite (ideally 3), either at the Fort Mason office or visiting employees at park sites.
