Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
The City of Worcester is seeking a Human Resources Generalist for the Hiring Division, onsite in Worcester, MA.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate onboarding for all full-time, part-time, and seasonal/temporary hires, including arranging pre-employment physicals and drug screenings as needed.
- Assist with recruitment activities such as resume review, candidate selection, and interview scheduling.
- Attend interviews as an HR panelist across multiple departments.
- Draft and issue offer letters, promotion letters, and onboarding documents for all City employees.
- Verify completion of all hiring steps and ensure required documentation is on file prior to start dates.
- Assist with exit interviews and analyze data to identify trends and recommend retention strategies.
- Facilitate and present at bi-weekly new employee orientations.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the Employment Team and IT, ensuring timely coordination and submission of documents to enable computer and network access for new hires, transfers, and promotions.
- Conduct research, compile data, and prepare reports for assigned special projects.
- Support HR management with department initiatives and programs.
- Represent the City at job fairs and career events.
- Assist the Hiring Division with activities related to Boards and Commissions.
- Provide support for job postings and civil service and labor processes.
- Provide front office HR support as needed.
- Prepare and maintain civil service reports as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in public or business administration, human resources, communications, or related field, and one year of related HR experience in recruitment or talent acquisition, or an equivalent combination of education and three years of relevant experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Driver's license or access to reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in public or business administration, human resources, communications, or related field.
- Three years of related HR experience in recruitment or talent acquisition.
- One year of experience supporting onboarding initiatives for an organization.
- Two years of experience working in a human resources department.
- Prior experience working with civil service.
