Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
At Hyde Park Church in Austin, an on-site Human Resources Generalist will help shape the staff experience across church and school programs by collaborating closely with the Executive Pastor and HR Director. This role covers the full employee lifecycle, payroll and benefits, compliance, administration, and performance and training to keep the HR function organized, compliant, and productive.
Responsibilities
- Support the Executive Pastor and HR Director by managing daily operations across Employee Life Cycle Management, Payroll & Benefits, Compliance, Administration, and Performance & Training to maintain an efficient HR function.
- Employee Life Cycle Management: lead onboarding and offboarding; conduct or obtain background checks and employment eligibility verifications; oversee payroll self-onboarding and onboarding orientations.
- Payroll & Benefits: maintain accurate HRIS data and employee files; process end-to-end semi-monthly payroll; collaborate with the Benefits Specialist to administer payroll deductions for group health and retirement benefits during onboarding, offboarding, and open enrollment.
- Compliance: assist with compliance tasks, audits, handbook updates, and required workplace reporting.
- Administration: perform routine HR tasks delegated by the Executive Pastor and HR Director; serve as a trusted contact for policy inquiries and investigations.
- Performance & Training: work with supervisors on Healthy Supervision check-ins; stay current with trends, regulatory changes, and technology in HR, payroll, compliance, and employment law.
- Confidentiality: uphold confidentiality of employee relations, personnel records, and payroll data to protect privacy and comply with labor laws EXCEPT in cases of child abuse or neglect.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Pastor and HR Director.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; 3–5 years of progressive HR experience with strong full-cycle HR and hands-on payroll processing.
- SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a strong plus.
- Prior experience in a church, non-profit, or faith-based organization is highly preferred.
- Experience navigating modern HRIS and payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paycom, Paylocity) is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of human capital management practices, employment and labor law, OSHA standards, and workers’ compensation procedures.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations professionally.
- Demonstrated project and time management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple priorities.
- Ability to implement change management strategies and support organizational development initiatives.
- Experience in training and development programs along with performance management processes.

Compensation
Salary: USD 58,300 - 60,000 per year
