Human Resources Manager
Job Description
Mark Richey Woodworking offers an onsite, senior HR leadership opportunity in Newburyport, MA. You will lead all HR functions for a manufacturing and woodworking operation, partnering with leadership to attract, develop, and retain talent while fostering a safe, engaged workplace. The role carries a salary of $100,000 to $120,000 per year and a comprehensive benefits package. A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field and at least ten years of progressive HR experience are required.
Responsibilities
- Manage payroll operations and onboarding processes
- Maintain precise employee records and HRIS data
- Generate HR reports and metrics to support leadership decisions
- Drive ongoing improvement of HR processes and systems to boost efficiency
- Lead full cycle recruitment including sourcing, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding
- Collaborate with department leaders to forecast staffing needs
- Create recruiting strategies for production roles that are hard to fill
- Facilitate onboarding and cultural integration for new hires
- Act as a confidential resource for employee concerns and conflict resolution
- Foster a culture of accountability, respect, teamwork, and open communication
- Conduct workplace investigations and advise on corrective actions
- Maintain a visible presence on the production floor and in the office
- Oversee performance management cycles and development plans
- Coach managers on feedback, performance improvement, disciplinary actions, and growth
- Support succession planning and retention initiatives
- Develop and maintain the employee handbook and HR policies
- Ensure compliance with applicable employment laws and internal policies
- Stay current on employment law updates and advise on HR risks and best practices
- Maintain wage and hour compliance, leave administration, and workplace rules
- Administer benefits programs and assist with enrollment questions
- Contribute to compensation planning, pay equity initiatives, and benchmarking
- Coordinate annual open enrollment and benefits communications
- Identify training needs and organize development programs
- Support leadership development and employee growth initiatives
- Help coordinate safety training with the operations team
- Coordinate and document safety meetings
- Manage workers' compensation claims and return-to-work processes
- Collaborate with operations and the Safety Committee on OSHA compliance and safety initiatives
- Support a culture focused on safe work practices and continuous improvement
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is preferred
- 10+ years of progressive HR experience, including leadership responsibilities
- Experience in woodworking, manufacturing, or construction environments is preferred
- Strong knowledge of employment laws, HR best practices, and payroll administration
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and discretion
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HR/payroll systems
- Ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization
