Human Resources Manager
Job Description
Manzana Products Co., Inc. is seeking a bilingual English/Spanish Human Resources Manager to oversee the Sunnyside, WA site on site. This leadership role directs day-to-day HR operations as the team grows from under 10 to more than 150 employees, covering recruitment, onboarding, training, employee relations, benefits, leave management, accommodations, and policy development. The position offers a salary range of USD 85,000 to 100,000 per year and requires a bachelor’s degree plus at least three years of HR experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead with empathy and confidence while collaborating across all levels of the organization.
- Direct the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of the Sunnyside HR team.
- Conduct annual performance reviews for direct reports and establish yearly goals.
- Provide guidance to the Sunnyside HR staff as needed.
- Oversee recruitment and interviewing to hire qualified applicants; partner with the Senior HR Generalist responsible for recruitment and with department managers to determine required skills and competencies.
- Assist the Senior HR Generalist with creating position descriptions, resume reviews, interviews, and offers as needed.
- Ensure background checks, drug screens, and reference checks are conducted per company policy.
- Execute background check adjudication as needed with support from the HR Director.
- Review and document compliance with mandatory and optional training, continuing education, and work assessments, including safety and anti-harassment training, licensure, and certifications.
- Support new hire orientation or lead it when required.
- Collaborate with departments or vendors to develop training content; create training materials for other Agrial, USA sites as needed.
- Participate in training new HR team members across locations.
- Help document HR processes and create or update job aids for common tasks.
- Oversee manager and supervisor training programs.
- Support the monthly employee recognition program to ensure nominations and recognitions occur on schedule.
- Plan and coordinate employee-focused events such as holidays, the annual company picnic, and birthday recognition across all shifts.
- Lead the annual performance appraisals and compensation reviews for all team members and set annual goals for supervisors and above; organize compensation reviews for the HR Director to present to the CEO and Director of Finance.
- Process employment and compensation changes in the HRIS and communicate changes to payroll as needed.
- Handle employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, escalating complex matters as appropriate; act as the first point of contact for feedback, disciplinary actions, terminations, and investigations.
- Collaborate with the HR Director on matters as appropriate and escalate when necessary; provide weekly summaries to the HRD.
- Manage Sunnyside employee benefits and the annual open enrollment process; review monthly benefit audits and invoice reconciliation; participate in annual reviews of benefits to maintain cost-effective, competitive plans.
- Handle leave requests, report workers compensation injuries, and manage reasonable accommodation requests; support the Safety Manager with safety programs and OSHA-related duties.
- Maintain HRIS data for the Sunnyside location (excluding payroll), ensure data integrity, and train team members to use the system; maintain data in benefits and training systems.
- Represent HR in customer, SQF, or other audits and keep the HR department audit-ready on a daily basis.
- Influence the company culture to align with core values and participate in annual Employee Handbook reviews to ensure compliance with laws and best practices.
- Attend quarterly town halls and participate in Operations Team meetings as needed; provide regular HR reporting and stay current on trends, regulations, and technology in HR.
- Provide leadership and guidance to promote positive employee relations while maximizing productivity and quality in alignment with company values.
- Adhere to food safety policies and lead by example.
Requirements
- Fluency in English and Spanish, both verbal and written.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict-resolution abilities.
- Outstanding organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving capabilities; able to prioritize and delegate when appropriate.
- Commitment to integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; capable of quickly learning the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field; a minimum of three years of HR experience.
- Ability to travel up to 15 percent for local travel and conferences at various locations, including potential trips to Manzana Sebastopol, CA.
