Job Description

The City of Shelton is seeking a detail-oriented Human Resources Technician to support HR and risk management operations onsite in Shelton, Washington. This role delivers frontline service to applicants, employees, and the public across recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, records management, and HR program coordination, while upholding confidentiality and compliance.

USD 60,350 - 80,978 per year

Summary

Under general supervision, this position handles a range of technical, administrative, confidential, and compliance-related duties to support the City’s Human Resources and Risk Management functions. It provides customer service to the public, applicants, and employees in areas such as recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, records management, and HR program coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate recruitment efforts, including job postings, applicant tracking, and candidate communications.
  • Schedule interviews, arrange panel logistics, prepare interview materials, and support the selection process.
  • Assist with applicant screening, reference checks, and pre-employment steps (background checks, onboarding coordination).
  • Manage onboarding tasks including new hire paperwork, orientation logistics, and employee setup.
  • Support leave administration, including FMLA and Washington PFML, by tracking eligibility and usage, maintaining required documentation, and coordinating communications between employees, supervisors, and third-party agencies.
  • Support ADA accommodation processes by scheduling meetings, maintaining documentation, tracking requests, and assisting communications under the HR & Risk Manager.
  • Respond to routine HR inquiries from employees, applicants, and the public regarding benefits, leave programs, policies, procedures, and employment matters; maintain related records and tracking systems.
  • Maintain confidential personnel files, HR databases, reports, and related documentation in compliance with applicable laws, records retention requirements, and City policies.
  • Provide administrative and technical support across HR functions including employee relations, training coordination, wellness programs, employee engagement initiatives, and other HR programs and events.
  • Maintain HR information systems, databases, and tracking tools; prepare reports, metrics, and summaries to support departmental operations and decision making.
  • Assist with risk management activities, including claims support, safety program documentation, and workers’ compensation recordkeeping.
  • Assist with surveys, research, and special projects.
  • Coordinate assigned HR and risk management programs, including drug and alcohol testing, regulatory reporting, and related compliance activities.
  • Audit personnel files and HR records to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
