Payroll / Human Resources Specialist
Job Description
Second Block Hospitality Management is seeking an in-person Payroll / Human Resources Specialist to support payroll operations and employee administration on a part-time basis. This role is designed for 15–20 hours per week with flexible working hours and includes responsibility for both payroll processing and core people-ops compliance.
Role Overview
The Payroll / Human Resources Specialist will manage payroll processing and related employee records, including onboarding and offboarding activities, pay documentation, benefits administration, and coordination of required state and federal items. The position also supports ongoing compliance efforts, documentation management, and employee-facing assistance for payroll and HR-related questions.
Key Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately and in a timely manner.
- Process ACH tip payments and reconcile tip information.
- Review payroll reports for accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare and distribute employee pay stubs.
- Process garnishments and other payroll-related deductions.
- Prepare and distribute annual W-2s.
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation.
- Process new-hire paperwork and maintain complete employee files.
- Prepare and manage new employee onboarding packets.
- Process employee status changes, including new hires, terminations, promotions, and rate changes.
- Track and maintain employee information and documentation to support compliance.
- Track annual employee reviews and related documentation.
- Assist employees with payroll and HR-related questions.
- Prepare and process unemployment paperwork.
- Assist with annual audits and provide requested payroll and HR documentation.
- Manage Delaware Earns requirements and related employee communications.
- Process and track Paid Family Leave requirements.
- Maintain insurance records and process insurance-related changes.
- Ensure employee records and payroll practices comply with applicable federal and state requirements.
- Manage records and documentation for J-1 students.
- Maintain confidentiality of employee and company information.
- Assist with other payroll and human resources projects as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in payroll and/or human resources administration.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong computer and data-entry skills.
- Experience working with payroll systems and payroll reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with management and employees.
Preferred / Plus Qualifications
- Experience with QuickBooks Desktop is preferred.
- Experience with Toast or other restaurant payroll and tip-processing systems is a plus.
- Knowledge of Delaware employment and payroll requirements is preferred.
- Payroll and HR experience in the hospitality or restaurant industry is a plus.
