Job Description

Benefits-forward HR Generalist role (onsite in Freeville, NY) supporting employee well-being through comprehensive benefits administration, leave and insurance processes, and responsive HR operations. You will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, with flexibility to meet program needs, and report to the Assistant Director of Human Resources. The position offers hourly pay of $26.00-$33.25/hour and includes comprehensive health, retirement plan options, and generous paid time off.

What you’ll do

  • Contact employees monthly to support benefits enrollment, including processing enrollment forms, inputting information into ADP, and forwarding updates to payroll.
  • Serve as an information resource for employee benefits questions, acting as a liaison between insurance companies and employees.
  • Process monthly insurance bills and coordinate with the Accounting Department to complete payment.
  • Notify employees of Open Enrollment opportunities and support ongoing enrollment administration.
  • Gather and process 5500 documents.
  • Track and process Medical “Opt Out” for Non-Union and Union employees (twice a year).
  • Handle workplace accident reports by completing required paperwork, sending forms to the Worker’s Comp carrier, obtaining follow-up information when needed, and tracking related information for leave time processing.
  • Support employees with disability claims and/or FMLA requests, adhering to contractual language for leave of absences and coordinating between disability carriers and employees while tracking leave time.
  • Explain the 401K plan and assist eligible employees with sign-up.
  • Assist with employee requests such as percentage changes, loans, and beneficiary updates.
  • Act as a liaison between Empower and employees.
  • Process Union contract raises and Non-Union raises (when given in mass) in ADP.
  • Support recruiting efforts for entry-level frontline staff, including participation in job fairs and events, and help develop and implement retention strategies to reduce turnover and improve employee satisfaction.
  • Provide guidance and resolution as a point of contact for employee concerns and issues.
  • Assist with oversight and administrative responsibility of HR policies and procedures, including creating and updating policies as needed.
  • Support middle management by monitoring, educating, and helping ensure fair and consistent interpretation of laws and appropriate responses to labor issues.
  • Help the Director and Assistant Director complete mandated reporting, handle unemployment claims, and represent the Agency at unemployment hearings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources and Assistant Director of Human Resources.

Compliance, safety, and organizational alignment

Ensure all responsibilities are completed in accordance with every safety standard, practice, and policy of The William George Agency for Children’s Services, including reviewing the agency’s Safety Policy and attending required safety-related training. Also adhere to all rules, regulations, policies, and philosophy of the agency and the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.

Requirements

  • Certificate in Human Resources Management (copy required)
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (copy required)
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License (copy required)
  • Annual Physical (required within 1 month of initial hire date)
  • Ability and willingness to work with a diverse population across cultural, socioeconomic, developmental, and sexual identities, establishing healthy and supportive relationships that acknowledge individual identities and encourage personal growth
  • Successful completion of required background checks, including NYS SCR, Multi-State Sex Offender Registry (SOR), NYS DCJS fingerprinting, NYS Justice Center Staff Exclusion List (SEL), NYS OMIG Medicaid Exclusion List, out-of-state child abuse register inquiry for states of residence within the last five years (if applicable), NYS LENS, and Office of Inspector General (OIG)

Preferred qualifications

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of ADP Systems and Lotus Notes
  • Degree in Human Resources Management or related field
