Job Description
Federal HR support role in Los Angeles providing clerical and technical assistance to a HR team handling recruitment, classification, benefits, and personnel actions.
Responsibilities
- Provide clerical and technical support in recruitment and placement, classification, employee benefits, and processing personnel actions.
- Process onboarding for new employees and conduct orientation sessions.
- Review security information and documents submitted and track progress on them.
- Review requests for personnel actions and resolve discrepancies and errors.
- Inform employees about available benefits and eligibility.
- Maintain and manage electronic filing systems.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment requires satisfactory pre‑employment adjudication, including fingerprinting, credit and tax checks, and drug testing; continued employment depends on a favorable background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- Selected candidates may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date.
- Typing at least 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors (typing test may be required later).
- GS-5 eligibility: at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-4 level in the Federal Service, or four years of education above high school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Specialized Experience for GS-5 includes applying standardized rules and procedures to provide administrative support; using office automated systems to enter, retrieve, and manage data; maintaining, preparing, and assembling files and logs; reviewing documents for accuracy and reconciling errors; processing and reviewing personnel actions for accuracy, discrepancies, and missing information.
- Combined Education and Experience may meet the one year of specialized experience requirement beyond the second year of college; only education beyond the first 60 semester hours is creditable toward specialized experience.
- GS-6 eligibility requires at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level, such as reviewing HR documents for completeness and providing information on employee benefits.
- GS-7 eligibility requires at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level, including applying regulations to determine correct HR codes and explaining basic federal employment policies and procedures to applicants and employees.
- ICTAP and CTAP provide selection priority for eligible displaced or surplus Federal employees, when criteria are met.
- Education must be accredited by a recognized accrediting institution; provide attendance and degrees from accredited institutions.
- All documentation must be in English or include an English translation.
- If qualifying based on education, provide an unofficial college transcript and foreign education evaluation if applicable.
- Veterans' Preference documentation may be required.
- CTAP/ICTAP documentation may be required (separation notice, SF-50 showing current position, grade, promotion potential, and duty location, plus most recent performance appraisal).
- Reasonable Accommodation documentation support for USA Hire assessments may be required.
- Current or former political appointees: SF-50 documentation and disclosure of political appointment details if applicable.
