Human Resources Coordinator (Support Services)
Job Description
Support HR and payroll operations as a section coordinator under the direction of the HR Manager in a Memphis, TN onsite role.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and supervise daily activities of assigned personnel, including assigning, directing, and reviewing work for accuracy, efficiency, and productive output
- Interview and recommend selections, promotions, status changes, disciplinary actions, and terminations; complete performance evaluations for assigned position(s)
- Process payroll and oversee resolution of payroll issues, complaints, and concerns by researching facts and applicable legal considerations
- Process internal bid and non-bid job postings according to union guidelines, if applicable
- Coordinate departmental new hire recruitment and applicant tracking, including background checks, physicals, motor vehicle reports, and specialized license verification/renewals
- Conduct interviews and assist with departmental onboarding procedures
- Prepare reports of findings using observation, analysis, interviews, and investigation; include justifications and recommendations to support compliance
- Monitor and track sick leave; make initial recommendations for FMLA/ADA coverage
- Serve as a liaison between employees and Shelby County Administrative Services/HR
- Act as OJI Coordinator for the department
- Coordinate programs and projects for internal annual requirements
- Review, investigate, and prepare reports related to vacancies, attendance and absence management, and risk management issues
- Review utilization of resources and recommend solutions to improve operating performance
- Perform other related duties as required or directed
Requirements
- Four (4) years of experience in employment administration or payroll, or coordinating special projects in a human resources environment
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public or business administration, management, human resources, or a related field
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
- Proof of education, training, and/or experience is required
- Must have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License or obtain one by the date of employment
- Must have access to an operable automobile and meet County requirements for automobile insurance upon date of employment
- Ability to travel to other Shelby County Government site locations as required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAS)
- Extensive knowledge of Shelby County program principles, concepts, and methodologies
- Practical knowledge of interpreting, explaining, developing, and applying procedures
- Substantial analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to analyze facts, identify problems, draw conclusions, and recommend or take appropriate action
- Thorough knowledge of organization and related practices, including financial (budgeting, accounting, auditing), purchasing, and personnel management
- Ability to supervise and coordinate support personnel
- Strong Microsoft Office skills to prepare documents and track data
- Ability to succeed in a collaborative team environment
- Good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions
