Job Description

The Director of Human Resources for Northrop Grumman Mission Systems leads HR strategy and transformation across BD and Capture Excellence, Program Execution, and HR organizations, onsite in Falls Church, VA, and serves as the HR Chief of Staff to the sector VP.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders, guiding collaboration and ownership toward division and sector goals.
  • Provide strategic thought leadership and adept organizational and project management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Utilize data analytics to inform business decisions and drive outcomes.
  • Make timely, well-reasoned decisions under uncertainty, evaluating alternatives as needed.
  • Interpret and implement processes, policies, and practices, recommending modifications where appropriate.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing HR function, fostering collaboration, inclusivity, listening, and team success.
  • Head organization transformation and change efforts to influence culture and business results, partnering with CoEs and senior division leaders; design operating models to optimize support and engagement.
  • Assess evolving business needs to identify critical skills and supply-demand dynamics, guiding talent movement actions.
  • Develop talent management, succession planning, and regular talent reviews to strengthen leadership capability and the talent pipeline.
  • Craft strategies to improve performance, engagement, and retention, leveraging total rewards, mission and values, culture, career development, and flexibility.
  • Leverage data trends to surface challenges, partner with leadership to strategize solutions, and lead planning, design, implementation, communication, and delivery of high-impact HR initiatives with peers.
  • Lead an HR team with guidance, coaching, and support to maximize performance and growth.
  • Collaborate with sector functions and CoEs to ensure clear communication and alignment for leaders and HR teams.
  • Steer the HR operating rhythm, including planning cycles, HR Leadership Team cadences, Human Capital reviews, and executive materials.
  • Partner with T&OE to advance cross-functional initiatives such as organization design, workforce planning, talent management, and culture.
  • Establish KPIs and analytics dashboards; use insights to guide decisions and improve outcomes.
  • Oversee HR budget planning, headcount, and optimization of operating spend.
  • Strengthen HR processes, policies, and controls; coordinate with key functional partners as applicable.
  • Oversee HR communications and change management efforts.
  • Represent HR in enterprise forums.
  • Prepare and deliver executive updates for the Sector President, ELT, and CHRO; drive follow-up and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of progressive experience in HR, People Operations, strategy, or related field, or Master’s degree with 8+ years of progressive experience in the same areas.
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams and delivering cross-functional programs.
  • Proven experience developing and executing HR or business strategies at the sector or enterprise level.
  • Strong program and project management skills and familiarity with HR operating models.
  • Executive-level communication, influence, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in HR analytics, KPIs, and dashboarding.
  • Ability to travel 10 to 20 percent between sites.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (eg, MBA, MS in HR) and/or SHRM-SCP/SPHR certification.
  • Experience as a Chief of Staff, HR Operations leader, or management consultant.
  • Workday expertise
  • Experience in large, matrixed organizations and enterprise transformation or change initiatives.
  • Process improvement experience (Lean/Six Sigma) and budget ownership.
