Human Resources Manager
Job Description
The Human Resources Manager will lead the HR function on site, directing daily activities across recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, compensation and benefits administration, health and safety, and policy compliance. The role includes guiding employment-law interpretation and shaping company policies, programs, and procedures to support business needs.
Summary
Provides strategic and operational oversight of the HR department, overseeing day-to-day processes from talent acquisition and onboarding to employee relations, performance management, and benefits administration. Ensures health and safety compliance, manages claims, and drives policy development while interpreting applicable employment laws.
Responsibilities
- Advise managers on employee relations, policy interpretation, and compliance with Employment Standards and Human Rights legislation.
- Identify, evaluate, and resolve employee relations issues in collaboration with management and supervisors.
- Oversee full cycle recruitment, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, hiring recommendations, offers, and onboarding.
- Champion employee development and succession planning; deliver organization-wide development programs.
- Mentor and coach direct reports and support management in coaching their teams.
- Manage claims including STD, LTD, Workers' Compensation, and the Early and Safe Return to Work program.
- Prepare reports and recommend procedures to reduce absenteeism, turnover, and work-related injuries.
- Maintain employee morale by planning and coordinating engagement activities.
- Conduct investigations and provide recommendations while maintaining confidentiality.
- Lead disciplinary meetings and terminations in line with policies; represent the organization during hearings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Five to seven years of experience in a human resources role.
- Manufacturing experience is preferred.
- Ability to develop strong relationships with managers, supervisors, and employees.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Human Rights Code and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Strong decision-making abilities with capacity to form and defend independent judgment and influence others.
- Comfort with changing priorities, handling diverse tasks, and adapting to evolving organizational needs.
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Experience with a human resources information system (such as Oracle).
- Commitment to continuous learning to stay current on employment legislation and industry best practices.
- Education: Degree or diploma in Human Resources or Business Administration, or equivalent; prior manufacturing experience is an asset.
