Job Description

Cabarrus County Schools offers an on-site Transportation Human Resource Specialist role in Concord, North Carolina, with an hourly pay range of $21 to $34. This position supports the Transportation Department by serving as a liaison for HR matters, coordinating training, handling employee relations, maintaining records, and managing CDL related processes. It provides the opportunity to contribute to safer, compliant routing and driver development within a public school district.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the department's HR liaison for recruiting, onboarding, disciplinary actions, training, and related HR services.
  • Develop and manage training requirements for the department with guidance from management.
  • Provide employee relations support, coach and counsel supervisors, and prepare personnel action correspondence and documentation.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate records, reports, and files.
  • Monitor and assist planners and managers with absenteeism and disciplinary action reporting.
  • Act as an active member of the Accident Review Committee.
  • Conduct new employee orientation, schedule CDL road training, and advise employees on CDL renewal and CCS Physical Standards Administration.
  • Create and maintain an approved CCS driver status list.
  • Draft letters relating to HR matters.
  • Oversee Workman’s Compensation for the transportation department.
  • Reserve and schedule CDL training classes with NC DMV.
  • Collect and compile driver data from planners for the CCS Safety & Performance Incentive Program.
  • Perform special projects and research as directed by the Director of Transportation.
  • Serve as the FMLA liaison with the HR department.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or a related field is preferred.
  • Considerable experience as an HR generalist, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Non-Exempt status.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of personnel policies and procedures for school employees.
  • Strong understanding of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to human resources management and personnel records.
  • Proficiency with standard office procedures, equipment, and software; ability to learn district-specific systems.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to operate a two-way radio.

Physical Requirements

  • Occasional exertion up to 10 pounds.
  • Regular sitting, speaking or hearing, using hands, repetitive motions; occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching, pushing or pulling, with standard vision requirements.
  • Vocal communication required and ability to hear normal speech levels.
  • Work involves preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and operating machines as needed.
  • No exposure to adverse environmental conditions; work is typically in quiet settings such as offices or private spaces.

Special Requirements

  • Applicable training will be provided.

Salary and Reporting

Pay is in the NC10 grade, with a pay range of USD 21 to 34 per hour. The role reports to the Transportation Director.
