Chief Human Resources Officer
Job Description
The Chief Human Resources Officer provides strategic leadership and management of all human resources functions within the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District in Fairbanks, AK.
Responsibilities
- Direct all aspects of staff recruitment, selection, and placement.
- Manage employee relations and labor relations initiatives across the district.
- Lead benefits administration for district employees.
- Guide workforce planning efforts aligned with district objectives.
- Drive leadership development programs throughout the organization.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws and district policies.
- Promote organizational effectiveness and overall operational efficiency.
- Counsel principals, managers, supervisors, and district leaders on personnel matters, workforce strategy, negotiated agreements, employee relations, and leadership development; support policy development.
- Oversee district evaluation systems, interpret negotiated agreements, manage relationships with bargaining units, develop policies and procedures, and supervise division budgets and operations while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business administration, educational leadership, school administration, or a related field is required.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience, with at least three (3) years in a key leadership role.
- SHRM-CP certification, or demonstrated commitment to obtain certification.
- Strong expertise in personnel administration, employee relations, labor relations, leadership development, and organizational management.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills in English (written and oral) to clearly articulate goals, risks, assumptions, recommendations, and expectations.
- Exceptional ability to review and interpret policies, negotiated agreements, and employment regulations related to recruitment, hiring and placement, employee relations, benefits, workforce planning, compliance, and personnel administration.
- Proven capacity to lead through complexity, manage competing priorities, navigate organizational systems, and foster accountability while maintaining positive working relationships.
- Demonstrated professional and personal characteristics necessary for effective work with school personnel, district leadership, employee organizations, and community members.
Compensation
- Starting annual salary: USD 131,460.58 - 172,173.25 DOE
Work Schedule
- Work day: 8 hours per day
- Work year: 12 months
