Job Description
HousingPlus is seeking a Director of Human Resources to design and execute people policies, nurture a positive and inclusive workplace, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. This leadership role oversees the HR Generalist and partners with senior leaders to advance mission-driven objectives. Location: New York, NY with a hybrid work arrangement. Salary range: USD 105,000 - 115,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Chief of Operations to implement the organization’s HR strategic plan.
- Oversee onboarding and offboarding processes, establishing best practices for orientation, background checks, records, and exit interviews.
- Ensure the HRIS maintains accurate data for new hires, employee records, and changes in employment status.
- Advise and coach business leaders to provide timely guidance on people development, career progression, rewards, and recognition.
- Counsel supervisors on disciplinary matters, including proper documentation, and escalate to legal counsel when appropriate.
- Attend and participate in disciplinary meetings, disputes, terminations, and investigations.
- Monitor trends, best practices, and regulatory changes in HR and employment law to inform internal policies and processes.
- Analyze data to guide decisions on retention, recruitment, and employee relations.
- Oversee HR programs such as compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, morale; safety; and training and development.
- Manage time and attendance, including payroll.
- Lead initiatives that foster an inclusive culture across the organization.
- Provide guidance to the HR Generalist and Recruitment on efficiencies and best practices aligned with organizational goals.
- Develop and maintain policies and procedures to guide the HR department and sustain operations.
Requirements
- Experience in a non-profit or mission-driven organization.
- Experience managing HR for multi-site or remote teams.
- Familiarity with grant compliance or HR requirements for federally funded programs.

Position Summary

This role requires strong leadership and effective execution of HR functions, with the ability to manage and oversee the HR Generalist in support of organizational objectives.
