Generalist, Human Resources
Job Description
American Airlines' Global People Team seeks a Generalist in Human Resources to help manage employee relations, guide leaders on performance and development, and oversee benefits administration while partnering with Centers of Excellence to advance our people strategy. This onsite role in Miami requires a bachelor’s degree in human resources, business management, or a related field and a minimum of three years of HR experience. The position emphasizes data-informed decision making, confidentiality, and a collaborative approach to supporting the business.
Responsibilities
- Provide support to leaders conducting employee relations investigations and case coordination.
- Advise leaders on performance management, career development, coaching, and disciplinary actions.
- Mediates HR inquiries and resolves concerns raised by employees.
- Handle day-to-day operational requests from the supported business unit to ensure timely resolution of tactical issues.
- Leverage data and metrics to drive improvements in policies, processes, and training for employees.
- Collaborate with the ADA team to determine appropriate actions on accommodation requests.
- Answer benefits-related questions from staff and leaders, directing inquiries as needed.
- Support the administration of compensation and benefits programs.
- Monitor compliance with timely completion of HR and enterprise-wide mandatory trainings.
- Review leadership goals to ensure timely entry and follow-up on execution twice a year.
- Assist leaders with work authorization and onboarding plans for new team members.
- Conduct stay and exit interviews for MSS roles as required.
- Collaborate with the People Business Partner on strategic imperatives such as talent strategy, learning and development, DEI, and initiatives to enhance performance and engagement.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business management or related field, or equivalent experience/training.
- Minimum three years of human resources experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Professional maturity and discretion to handle confidential information.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Knowledge of state and federal employment laws including FMLA, ADA, FLSA, NLRB, Title VII, and related regulations.
- PHR or SPHR certification.
- Experience providing guidance and counsel to leaders.
- Strong business acumen and curiosity.
- Experience reporting, analyzing, interpreting data, and applying critical thinking.
- Previous experience working with unionized team members.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently with high self-motivation.
- Demonstrates initiative and sound judgment.
