Human Resources Manager

Based in Olympia, Washington, this onsite role at Hands On Children's Museum oversees the employee experience, benefits, compliance, onboarding, payroll, and HR programs. The position focuses on welcoming new hires, supporting managers, and maintaining a positive workplace culture. The compensation range is USD 33 - 40 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary resource for employee questions on policies, benefits, and payroll
• Support managers with employee relations, coaching, and conflict resolution
• Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging workplace culture
• Recruit and hire staff by posting roles, screening candidates, and coordinating interviews
• Lead onboarding and orientation to welcome new hires from day one
• Support smooth offboarding processes
• Process semi-monthly payroll
• Maintain HRIS systems and accurate employee records
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal HR laws and regulations
• Manage employee leave programs including FMLA and WA PFML
• Oversee benefits enrollment and vendor coordination
• Manage Open Enrollment for employee benefits
• Support employee recognition programs and staff communications
• Track required training and coordinate sessions
• Ensure employees have the tools they need to succeed
• Assist in planning all-staff meetings
• Participate in and help lead the FUN Committee
• Foster engagement across the museum team

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or related field, or HR certification
• 3+ years of HR experience; nonprofit experience is a plus
• Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
• Experience with HRIS systems such as Paylocity or ADP
• Excellent communication skills and a people-first mindset
• Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
• Proactive, organized, and solutions-oriented approach
