Human Resources/Payroll Coordinator
Job Description
Sandhills Utility Services, LLC is seeking a detail-focused Human Resources/Payroll Coordinator to support accurate, on-time payroll processing and key HR operations in a fast-moving, employee-centered environment. Based onsite in Fort Bragg, NC, this full-time role helps ensure HR systems stay current, employee records remain compliant, and payroll and benefits questions are handled promptly.
The coordinator acts as a bridge between employees, internal leadership, and external vendors, working to resolve payroll and HR inquiries while maintaining detailed, accurate documentation across HRIS and payroll systems.
Role Focus
- Manage accurate, on-time employee payroll processing, including verification of hours, leave balances, deductions, and bonuses.
- Support HR administration such as benefits coordination, employee record management, and compliance with labor laws.
- Prepare payroll-related deliverables including reports, tax filings, and audit support.
- Maintain and distribute required documents, including NRECA benefit documents and annual W-2s.
Responsibilities
- Process and verify employee payroll data to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
- Maintain and update employee records in HRIS and payroll systems in line with company policies and legal requirements.
- Coordinate benefits administration, including enrollment, changes, and communication with employees and benefits providers.
- Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, benefits, and HR policies.
- Assist with preparation of payroll reports, tax filings, and audits to support regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting to reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies.
- Support recruitment, training, and onboarding by preparing documentation and maintaining personnel files.
- Stay current with federal, state, and local employment laws and payroll regulations.
- Generate a monthly article for the company newsletter.
- Prepare and distribute NRECA benefit documents.
- Prepare a Workers’ Compensation Payroll audit.
- Review and distribute W-2s annually.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- At least 2 years of experience in payroll processing or human resources coordination.
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or higher in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
- Proficiency with payroll software and HRIS systems.
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, tax laws, and labor compliance requirements in the United States.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
- Experience with major payroll platforms such as ADP, Paychex, or Workday.
- Certification in payroll (for example, Certified Payroll Professional) or human resources (for example, SHRM-CP).
- Familiarity with benefits administration and employee relations.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data reporting and reconciliation.

Working Conditions
- In-person position (onsite in Fort Bragg, NC).
- Normally works weekdays 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, with overtime possible to meet organizational needs.
- Some overnight travel may be expected.
- Required to work all inclement weather events.
