Human Resources Generalist
Job Description
The Human Resources Generalist collaborates with the HR Manager to deliver compliant, employee-focused HR services across Douglas Dynamics and Fisher Engineering. This role supports core programs including recruiting, employee relations, performance management, benefits, leave administration, safety compliance, and training.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with managers to assess workforce needs and secure timely staffing for both hourly and salaried roles.
- Maintain accurate employee records within the HRIS, timekeeping systems, and personnel files.
- Process employee lifecycle actions such as hires, transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Uphold confidentiality, accuracy, and compliance with record retention requirements.
- Provide timely HR metrics and reports to HR leadership and management.
- Serve as an accessible resource for employees regarding policies, practices, and workplace concerns.
- Assist managers with performance development, coaching, and merit planning processes.
- Support employee relations investigations involving complaints, policy violations, and performance issues.
- Recommend fair, consistent corrective actions aligned with policies and applicable laws.
- Guide supervisors on policy application, labor regulations, and HR best practices.
- Coordinate benefits administration including enrollments, changes, and Open Enrollment periods.
- Assist employees with benefits questions and claims issues.
- Support leave administration including FMLA, short- and long-term disability, jury duty, bereavement, and other leaves.
- Assist with workers’ compensation processes, return-to-work coordination, and injury management.
- Process employee reimbursements as needed.
- Monitor and communicate changes in federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Maintain OSHA logs and support OSHA recordkeeping compliance.
- Coordinate required safety programs including Hearing Conservation and related trainings.
- Contribute to Anti-Harassment and Anti-Violence training annually and participate in safety meetings and investigations as required.
- Engage in Kaizen events, Gemba walks, operations meetings, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
- Support employee engagement activities, recognition programs, and company events.
- Maintain employee communication boards and site postings.
- Represent the HR Manager in meetings when requested and provide guidance to HR administrative staff as appropriate.
- Participate in professional development activities including SHRM meetings and training.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and comply with safety rules.
- Perform other reasonably related duties as assigned.
- Create and post job openings internally and externally; review candidates and qualify applicants.
- Coordinate temporary staffing with external agencies; facilitate interviews, prepare offer letters, and coordinate pre-employment screenings.
- Conduct new hire orientation and onboarding activities.
Requirements
- Associate degree is required with 1 to 4 years of related HR experience; or five to ten years of progressively responsible HR experience.
- Demonstrated ability to handle highly confidential information with discretion.

Pay
Salary: USD 50,000 to 65,000 per year
