Job Description
The Recruiting Manager - Trucking leads the search for qualified Owner Operator Independent Contractors for an open deck trucking operation, reporting directly to the President.
Responsibilities
- Attract and retain top tier open deck operators, including RGN and step-deck Owner Operators, with safety as a priority.
- Partner with management to align recruitment activities with the company’s goals.
- Manage daily recruiting tasks in accordance with established guidelines and policies.
- Clearly communicate the benefits, expectations, and capacity to deliver open deck freight while maintaining shipment safety and security.
- Build a candidate pool using applications, cold outreach, social media, networking, job fairs, trade shows, and online postings.
- Set realistic growth targets and work to achieve them.
- Pre-qualify applicants and advance those who fit the criteria to the next stage per policy.
- Complete required DOT background checks, verifications, and other qualifications efficiently and thoroughly.
- Collaborate with applicants to gather information needed to finalize the application process.
- Oversee the orientation process for new hires.
- Occasional travel as needed.
Requirements
- Proven experience recruiting and retaining Owner Operators, ideally in a specialized hauling operation.
- Excellent verbal communication skills capable of engaging a diverse applicant pool.
- Strong computer proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; familiarity with an applicant tracking system is a plus; experience with McLeod Software is advantageous.
- Team-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Solid knowledge of FMCSA regulations, compliance practices, and transportation operations.
- Ability to work independently, follow instructions, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
